Pickaway County – US-23 Rest Area Will be Closed for Renovations for a Year
Pickaway County – A popular rest area and only one in Pickaway County will close this week and may not reopen for a year.
According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the rest area in the area of South Bloomfield on US-23 will close on Thursday, January 11th. The reconstruction is expected to take 12-14 months, and the rest area will remain closed for the duration of construction.
Two rest areas in Fayette County along I-71 in the same location (One Northbound and one Southbound) will also close during the same timeline.
The current facilities are being replaced with a lodge-style building and will feature inside vending and Ohio tourism information.
Demolition of the current buildings is expected to take place over the winter months, and construction of the new facilities will follow. Once the rest areas close on January 11, drivers will be unable to use the parking lot or the building.
